John Upleger developed this gentle, hands-on therapy following extensive study between 1975 and 1983. Craniosacral therapy works to evaluate and enhance the function of the craniosacral system. This system comprises the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect both the brain and the spinal cord.
Craniosacral therapy is usually practised on a massage table with the client fully clothed. The therapist can detect subtle blockages and changes in the movement and freedom of the system. When the body suffers a trauma such as a car accident or concussion the body can hold on to the effect of the injury. Emotions can also affect our bodies and be held, trapped within us. A CranioSacral therapist will be able to detect these past traumas both emotional and physical and work to release them bringing about balance and harmony.
